Artificial Intelligence for Production Planning and Control (ARISE)

Structuring and tackling the issue of AI in production

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers great potential in the industrial environment. Many companies are already willing to invest in AI. However, small and medium-sized companies in particular are now facing the challenge of structuring and systematically tackling the issue of AI in production for themselves.

This is not just a matter of buying simple software. The topic raises numerous questions for companies such as:

  • For which use cases is AI suitable or when can a problem be solved e.g. by simple statistical analysis?
  • Is the necessary data available in the company and if not, what data is needed and how can it be accessed?

This is the starting point of the research project. It describes a procedure for planning and implementing AI in production. A specification technique describes the cause-and-effect relationships of use cases in production, quantifies these with suitable metrics and specifies the existing and required data basis and the required AI methods. Based on concrete use cases in machine loading and sequencing in the production of Josef Schulte GmbH, AI methods are to be systematically introduced and implemented.
