The Leading-Edge Cluster strategy from 2012 to 2017 involved the implementation of 47 projects in total. Companies and research institutes worked together to create new market-ready products, technologies and applications in 33 innovation projects. The basis for these was provided by research results from five cross-sectional projects conducted in the region’s universities. An interdisciplinary approach was used to combine individual expertise.
The technology platform served as the basis for dissemination, with transfer projects making the technologies and methods developed by the cluster available to small and medium-sized enterprises in particular. Along with seven other sustainability initiatives, transfer ensured that the cluster continues to develop after funding has expired, and increased the competitiveness of the companies involved.
