The topopacker was developed by topocare GmbH and the FHDW from Paderborn as part of a research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . It demonstrates what flood protection of the future can look like.
Instead of endangering emergency personnel by working in the risk area, the newly developed machine can be deployed to independently set up the protection. How? It lays a sand-filled geotextile hose, e.g. to secure a dike. The sand supply is also taken over by semi-autonomous units, while a person from the control centre can intervene at any time.
The film shows the procedure in case of flooding as well as the capabilities of the developed machine. The development was proposed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the German Future Prize of the Federal President 2020. The machine technology is currently undergoing further development. To this end, further research is being carried out on both the machine components and the protective structure, the sand-filled hoses.
