The Leading-Edge Cluster Competition
The Leading-Edge Cluster Competition is the flagship of the German federal government’s High-Tech Strategy. Through the competition, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports the top-performing commercial and scientific clusters.
Between 2007 and 2012, three rounds of the competition were held and 15 Leading-Edge Clusters selected, with each receiving up to EUR 40 million in funding over five years. The Leading-Edge Cluster focuses on technological developments to solve societal challenges (climate/energy, health, security, mobility, communication). The technology network it’s OWL was named a Leading-Edge Cluster in the third round of the competition on January 19, 2012.
